Clay tile (sometimes called "Spanish Tile") roofing provides you with versatility. You can purchase clay tiles that mimic other materials such as slate or wood, or you can purchase it with its natural look, that will give your home a Spanish or Italian flair. Made from natural materials, clay tile roofing is eco-friendly, but calls for a lot of energy to make it and is quite expensive. 

This long lasting, low maintenance material has excellent fire resistance, but can become weak and brittle. Clay tile is also very heavy, so your framing structure will definitely need to be reinforced.
